This historic new staging of “The Nutcracker”, produced by Port Angeles’ own Ballet Workshop Productions, promises to be a holiday premiere that you do not want to miss, bringing together local ballet students, theater performers, and guest dance artists from all over Washington State.
Set in the great depression of Clallam County in 1895, this original story follows the adventure of young Marie and her brother, Frank, who are given a magical gift of a Nutcracker by their wealthy godfather, business tycoon Gregers M. Lauridsen, at their family’s Christmas Eve barn dance. As the story at the family estate, in the foothills of Hurricane Ridge, Marie, Frank and the farm boy, James, are preparing for the arrival of their guests. Musicians, entertainers and family friends begin to arrive from all over town, bringing seasonal house-warming gifts. The festivities end as midnight snow begins to fall and Marie and Frank are taken on a journey with the Nutcracker Prince, dreaming of a fairytale land where Sugar Plums dance and lavender sparkles in every field.
Set to Tchaikovsky’s traditional Nutcracker score, this home- grown production will capture your heart as it pays tribute to the rich history of life on the Peninsula at the turn of the Civil War era. You’ll love the locally crafted costumes, and beautifully hand-painted backdrops of the Olympics and lavender fields of Clallam County. An evening you will want to enjoy with your entire family, young and old, for years to come.
