We are very excited that the astonishing LED dance/multi-media performance company will be presenting a world premiere, “This Way To Egress,” in Port Angeles. This multimedia work draws inspiration from how the Boise Zoo was founded. In 1916 a monkey escaped from a circus traveling through Idaho. This monkey was discovered several months later, taken to Boise, and became the founding animal of the Boise Zoo. Using this story as an underlying metaphor for aging, This Way to the Egress will use the circus, desert and zoo as the landscape for a work which unfolds from childhood through old age. Exploring themes of isolation, the degeneration of body, voyeurism, and reflection, the collaborative work will involve artists from several different mediums including choreography, music, video, costume, mask design and photography.
LED Artistic Director Lauren Edson has emerged as one of the pre-eminent dancers of her generation. She has danced with such illustrious groups as the Trey McIntyre Project, Body Vox, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Idaho Dance Theatre. As a choreographer she has won awards too numerous to mention and her works have been commissioned by many dance companies throughout the nation. In January 2015, Lauren created LED with her husband, musician Andrew Stensaas, as a collaborative arts organization whose mission is to blend sound, movement and visuals into visceral worlds.
