Five-time Grammy-nominated artist Karrin Allyson has carved out a remarkable career as a singer, songwriter, pianist, composer and bandleader. It’s not just the critics who love her, it’s the rest of the world, too – musicians, concert-goers and connoisseurs of quality music. To date, she has recorded a series of eleven CDs for Concord Records, each of which have showcased her astonishing breadth of repertoire, from standards by Gershwin and Porter to Brazilian bossa nova and Thelonious Monk. She has also taken on French and Brazilian music (From Paris to Rio), the genius of John Coltrane (Ballads: Remembering John Coltrane) and the blues (In Blue). She performs regularly throughout the world, including a visit each year to Seattle’s Jazz Alley, where her series of shows, as many as six, are always sellouts. The classically trained Karrin Allyson is also a great bandleader – truly a musician’s musician. This is one of Allyson’s greatest achievements and, with her band, she has developed a powerful and flexible language and style unique among current groups.
